Ice Cream For Dinner Party Featuring A Cherry Bourbon Sauce

9. Comments

Hello August! July kind of flew by for us Jaiden has been in New York for nearly three weeks. This is the first time he went on his own as in flew ALONE – he was fine the only worry he had was how would he purchase snacks since he doesn’t have a credit card {first world problems over here lol}.

I, on the other hand was a hot mess but I held it in because that’s what us moms do. He’s growing up so fast and the onset of emotions had more to do with that than him taking a 2.5 hour plane ride alone.

I miss him so much but it really makes my heart happy that he gets to spend some time with my dad and stepmom and not to mention his partner in crime/cousin Joseph. He’ll be home this weekend and school is just right around the corner {2 weeks from now! … but who’s counting?!}.

Since he’s been away I took the opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with Sienna. Will and I really make an effort to spend time with each of them individually it makes them feel special.

Sienna and I did tons of girly things and we also planned an ‘Ice For Cream Dinner Party’!  I’ve been wanting to do an ice cream for dinner party for YEARS!

I first heard about it from Kate Plus Eight. On the show they’d always take a summer vacation, and on the last day of the vacation Kate would let them have ice cream for dinner with all the fixings.  It’s their family tradition and I this is a tradition I definitely can get on board with.

I had told my good friend Teresa over at Florida Girl Cooks {she’s an ice cream fanatic btw} and she was ALL IN. Since Teresa is an ice cream connoisseur she was in charge of making the ice cream and I was in charge of the toppings.  I think the two of us were more excited than the kids.

On the menu: Teresa’s Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Peach + Cream Ice Cream and Pina Colada Ice Cream.

For the toppings I made a Cherry Bourbon Sauce, Dulce de Leche with Banana Nut Sauce, Matcha Green Tea Glaze and homemade Magic Shell.

This was a fun and decadent way to say goodbye to the summer and hello to the upcoming school year and how often can you say you had ice cream for dinner?!

Ingredients
  1. 1 lb of cherries {pitted}
  2. 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  3. 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  4. 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  5. about 1 tablespoon of orange zest
  6. 2 oz bourbon
  7. a pinch of salt
Instructions
  1. Make sure you clean and pit your cherries {this took the longest time I pitted them by hand not sure if a pitter would have helped time-wise}.
  2. In a large pot add all the ingredients and simmer on low with a lid. The cherries will burst open and your house will instantly smell like Christmas. Remove from heat and cool once it's cool enough to handle place them in the jars.
Notes
  1. If you want a stronger bourbon flavor soak your cherries in bourbon overnight.
  2. I was able to fill 2 6 oz jars with this recipe.
