Summer Survival Guide: Art Projects & Crafts For Kids

The kids are out of school and real talk they have been driving me INSANE.

They are basically at war with one another {or with me}. I swear each day they have a meeting and decide OK her or us? Are we going to turn on each other or should we take turns driving her crazy? Either way the plan is drive mom CRAZY!

It’s been a sea of endless snacking , washing dishes, bickering, shouting and wiping away some tears too. I don’t want to sound ungrateful I’m truly blessed that I’m able to work from home and spend time with them but there has to be a balance. I’m still trying to figure out what that balance is.

Some days are harder than others. If I plan out fun things for us to do together or for them to do individually it usually makes the day much easier.  I’ve been good about taking them to the beach or park but for a few hours a day I really need to sit and get some work done and these are the times that have been the most challenging.

My kids are happiest when they’re eating or creating. Art projects and crafts are an amazing way to keep them busy and happy. I’m all about keeping it low key – I don’t want to spend 3 hours searching online for the supplies or spending a small fortune at the craft store.

The goal is stress-free fun so craft projects that you can do with things you already have laying around the house are the way to go.

A few things you want to keep on hand for impromptu crafting:

  • empty toilet paper + paper towel tubes
  • paint + paint brushes
  • crayons, markers + pencils
  • child safe scissors + hole puncher
  • drawing + writing paper
  • pipe cleaners + paper plates
  • tape + glue
  • leftover gift wrapping paper + gift tissue
