Cocktail Recipe: Grilled Grapefruit & Ginger Fizz

The inspiration for this cocktail came from my friend Sara who was telling me about a fabulous drink {and meal} she had at The Cooper. Their drink is called the Name Dropper and after hearing Sara talk it up I went to their website to see what it was all about.

I often will play mixologist and attempt to make a drink I had at a restaurant but this is the first time I tried recreating  a cocktail without even tasting it yet. I know that sounds a bit odd but the ingredients really intrigued me so I decided to put my own spin on it.

I decided to grill the grapefruit. I learned about grilled cocktails from Robyn of GrillGirl.com it’s a great way to add some smokiness to a cocktail – plus the grill marks make for a beautiful garnish.

You can add fresh squeezed grapefruit juice but I always have a Onli Beverages on hand – it’s my favorite flavored sparkling water. To add a little  kick some ginger infused simple syrup tied all the flavors together.

This cocktail has a perfect balance of tart, sweet and spicy!

A splash of Onli Grapefruit Pomelo Peach adds the perfect amount of fizz to this cocktail | Michelle Lara // Cupcakes, Cocktails & Kids

I haven’t had a chance to try the Name Dropper but in the meantime I can shake this up in the comfort of my own home!

Cocktail Recipe: Grilled Grapefruit & Ginger Gin Fizz

Ingredients {makes 2 cocktails}:

2 1/2 ounces of good quality gin

1 ½ ounces of St. Germain Elderflower Liqueur

3 ½ ounces of Onli Grapefruit & Pomelo Peach {or fresh squeezed Grapefruit juice, if you want it to fizz you’ll need a splash of club soda}

1 ½ teaspoons of ginger simple syrup

4 slices of thickly cut grapefruit wedges

Ice

Directions:

Combine the gin, St. Germain, grapefruit juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled halfway with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a cocktail glass or tumbler. Garnish with the grilled grapefruit. Add a splash of Onli Grapefruit & Pomelo Peach right before you serve to add some more fizz.
