We’re right in the middle of summer which means fun in the sun and tons of BBQ’s and outings. If your like me you’ve traded your beauty routine for a burger – but I’m here with good news for you!

You can keep your summertime makeup regimen super simple and sassy.

Katie McBroom makeup artist, former co-worker (and friend) and the winner of Allure Magazine’s Most Buzzworthy Blogger of the Year for her fabulous blog Martinis and Mascara is sharing her summertime tips for achieving a fun and flirty summertime look.

Q: Should we use a primer during the summer?

A: I love using primers year round, but they are especially essential in the summer for keeping your foundation in place! Stila One Step Correct is one of my favorites. It’s a lightweight serum that brightens as it primes!

Q: Moisturizers – I’ve seen tons of matte ones do those help for the summer?

A: They do help! Lightweight mattifying moisturizers are perfect for summer. Even if you have oily skin, it’s important to keep your skin hydrated.

Q: What kind of foundation or coverage do you recommend? Any particular brands?

A: Lighter products like BB Creams are great for this season if you want to skip full coverage foundation in the heat. I like Kiehl’s BB Cream because it provides a good amount of coverage and contains SPF 50 – so essential for keeping the skin safe in the summer sun!

Q: I love the look of a gloss but it’s so sticky during the summer any advice on a product we can use that is less sticky?

A: I like to use IMAGE Skincare Ormedic Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex. It’s actually designed to moisturize and fill in lines, but it has a glossy finish so it can work in place of a gloss. There are also great options out there like MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Rouge. It’s double sided – one end with a waterproof liquid lip color and the other with a high shine gloss that is less tacky than most.

Q: Your heading out to a long beach getaway what 3 beauty items do you bring?
A:Waterproof mascara, a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, and a multipurpose product like NARS The Multiple (a makeup stick you can use for lip, cheek and eye color).

Q: What’s your big beauty splurge item that is really worth it?

A: Estee Lauder Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher. It’s $80 for 1.7 ounces which sounds a little crazy, but it makes my skin look amazing! It’s a silicone based product that creates a baby smooth finish and evens out unwanted tones in the skin.

Q: What’s trending for summer right now that you think we should all implement (or at least try)

A: Aqua eyeliner is in right now! I love adding a pop of color on the waterline and under the lower lashes. It’s fun, easy, and low maintenance – everything a summer trend should be. Summer is also a great time to try makeup setting sprays. Urban Decay makes an awesome moisture resistant spray called Chill Makeup Setting Spray.
